How Fast a Year Goes!

E-mail Print PDF

How Fast a Year Goes!It is amazing how quickly a year goes! I can't believe that it has been just over a year since I sat down and wrote anything on my blog for starters!

So, I suppose really, I'd better get back into the swing of things, and update it a bit more regularly.

Well first of all, I'll update the world on what has been taking my time for the last year or so since my last blog post, which was at last year's general election.

Fox News Appoints The Queen as Prime Minister!

E-mail Print PDF

Fox News Prime Ministerial GaffeFox News' website, foxnews.com published a story on it's website, reporting on the news that Gordon Brown had resigned as Prime Minister, and David Cameron of the Conservatives appointed in his place following last week's general election.  Unfortunately for foxnews.com, they seem to have got things just a little bit wrong, writing instead;

"Queen Elizabeth accepted the invitation of Conservative Party leader David Cameron to become Britain's new prime minister Tuesday night after Gordon Brown resigned following his failure to form a coalition government with another liberal party after national elections last week".

Election Night LIVE

E-mail Print PDF

Polling StationSo it's finally here, the day that the country has been waiting for, it is election day across the United Kingdom.  Over 4,000 candidates are contesting 650 seats in parliament, in what is expected to be a historic night for British politics.

I'll be watching all the races, and reporting all the results, what they mean, and what the media are saying about them throughout the night, and into the morning both here, and over at www.newsonnews.net where we have comprehensive coverage of the General Election.

It's Gordon Brown That Has Stopped the Others From Releasing Spending Cut Details

E-mail Print PDF

Gordon BrownOver the past few weeks of this election campaign, I've heard many television and radio interviews, and read many newspaper articles that have slated the parties for not giving details of how they will cut the spending defecit.

Well there is a simple reason for this, and it is not the fault of the Conservatives, or the Lib Dems, nor is it the fault of any of the smaller parties all running in this general election.

The reason why detailed spending cuts cannot be published by anyone other than Labour, who incidentally have also not released any details of what they will do, is because of Labour.

I'm Fed Up of Hearing About Civil Liberties

E-mail Print PDF

cctvThere seems to be a bunch of crooks and a bunch of 'green party voting do-gooders' that always bang on about breaches of their civil liberties when it comes to the debate about CCTV cameras, ID Cards, and anything else that may, or may not collate information about us.  I for one am fed up of hearing the arguement that it is 'in breach of civil liberties' as an excuse.

It will undoubtedly come up during this election campaign, but surely, if you are law abiding, and live an honest lifestyle, there is nothing to worry about.  My logic leads me to the conclusion that CCTV and Government databases will infact protect me from crime and crooks, and prosecute me if I do wrong.

Cash For Influence - The Latest Westminster Scandal

E-mail Print PDF

UK ParliamentDeception, lies and what appears to be one last chance to get some benefits from their time in Parliament, but it's led to the suspension of three high profile MP's.  It has been touted as the next big bout of sleaze to hit the political sphere, but weeks from the general election and with the expenses scandal still fresh in the mind, this has added weight.  Not just that, the Dispatches documentary which has exposed these leeches on society, has also exposed some other truths which go much deeper into the heart of Westminster.

I'll start then with Margaret Moran, an MP who was embroiled deeply in the expenses scandal.  As a result of the 'stress' she endured throughout, she has been unable to hold her constituency surgeries, nor meet with any of her constituents.  She looked pretty healthy on the tv though at a secretly filmed meeting in which she thought she could be in line for thousands of pounds a day.  The documentary makers even phoned her constituency office who confirmed she was too ill to hold any constituency meetings.  Thankfully, this disgusting, plague on our political system has now been suspended from the parliamentary labour party, but as it stands, she'll still get her golden goodbye of over fifty grand when she leaves parliament in the next few weeks.  The injustice is just too great to even try and write without using offensive language.

Is Gordon Brown a Prolific Liar?

E-mail Print PDF

Gordon BrownThere is no getting away from the fact, the Prime Minister said three times at the Iraq Enquiry that defence spending had increased in real terms every year under Labour.  Well, as we all know from Prime Ministers Questions on Wednesday, that wasn't ever the case.  Infact, for two years, including 2004-05, at the height of the Iraq war and the war in Afghanistan, defence spending was cut in real terms.

The humiliating climbdown by Brown at Prime Minister's Questions and also his letter to Sir John Chilcott do not acknowledge the fact that he was simply wrong.  Instead, the prime minister is attempting to pass off the simple fact of incorrect information, as a 'clarification'.

A Hung Parliament Could See Vince Cable as Chancellor

E-mail Print PDF

Vince CableImagine if the outcome of the general election is a hung parliament, and the Liberal Democrats go into a coalition with the Conservatives to form a government.  Public opinion of the Shadow Chancellor George Osbourne is pretty low to say the least, even the Tories aren't relying to heavily on him for electioneering.  In contrast, the public have a high opinion of the Lib Dems treasury spokesman Vince Cable, who is seen by many as a well rounded, confident operator, and someone the public would trust with their tax pounds.

Surely then, one of Nick Cleggs bargaining chips must be that in the event of the tories requiring the support of the Lib Dems to form a government, he could demand that Vince Cable be installed as Chancellor of the Exchequer to take control of the ecomonic recovery in the UK.

It's Election Time... Nearly

E-mail Print PDF

Well, it has been six months since i've even thought of posting anything to this blog, but with a general election less than two months away, it is high time I started talking again!  The general election is expected to be held on the 6th May, which means within weeks, the election campaigns will swing into action.  Election time is one of my favourite political events, and something that I certainly enjoy writing about and commentating on.

So, over the coming weeks, both here, and over at http://www.newsonnews.net , I'll be writing probably too much on the rapidly changing political landscape in the UK.
