The Nader Factor? UpdatePosted by Kevin Coy in Politics, Election 2008 |
I got a reply from the Nader Campaign on the questions that I posed in my previous Nader Factor post (click here), so, I've re-written my post including their responses;
Ralph Nader is the mostly unknown candidate for the Presidency of the US, and always finishes far far behind the two main political parties on election day. But why are the Democrats moreso than the Republicans worried about him yet again this time round? Well, Ralph Nader is seen as a 'spoiler', or in other words, someone who has the potential to creme enough votes from your voter-base, that there is a risk of the other party winning. Making this doubly worse for the Democrats, is that Nader creme's more of their votes than those of the Republicans.

Bored of the 'Stump Speech'??Posted by Kevin Coy in Election 2008 |
...Well get used to it! For the next two weeks, as the US candidates criss-cross the US in an effort to shore up support and get as many votes as they can, the news channels both in the US and in the UK will show most, if not all, of the appearances that the candidates for president make. Well whats the problem with that I hear you ask....

So who is Ralph Nader?

John McCain has said that he will suspend campaigning on Thursday to return to Washington DC and help with the bailout negotiations currently on-going on Capitol Hill. In a further shock development, McCain has asked that Friday's presidential debate be postponed so that the bailout negotiations can continue, adding to concern that the talks may be reaching an impasse. McCain has asked Sen. Obama to do the same.

From midnight on 23rd April, I provided a live blog with views and analysis from a british perspective as the results emerged from the Pennsylvania primaries... Along with my sometimes skewed views and opinions many people got in touch via this site, and also via CNN's iReport to give me their take on the US elections. You can read the full blog, minute by minute, including some of the views of those who were reading that night by clicking here! You can also email me your comments to

"The West Wing" in real life??Posted by Kevin Coy in television, Politics, Election 2008 |
The TV series "The West Wing" ended its sixth season with a deadlocked democratic convention, between fictional Vice President Bob Russell, and fictional Congressman Matt Santos. This occurred after both candidates were short of the number of delegates needed to be the presumptive nominee after all of the primaries and caucuses. This resulted in a brokered convention situation. Well, why am I mentioning this?? It is seemingly increasingly likely that the Democrats are heading for exactly the same situation in this years race to the White House!

The United States of America are going to the polls to decide who will ultimately run in the General Election for President in November. The US political system can seem very complicated, but infact, when broken down, its actually quite a simple, and effective way of picking the right person for the job. In this post, I will try and explain the political process for selecting a nominee and ultimately the race for the White House.
